The splicing unit is equipped with two infrared edge sensors FR 5301 detecting the right edge of the incoming and the outgoing material at a time. The incoming material is moved to the position of the outgoing material by means of two actuators AG 9. The master logic DN 1002 calculates from the deviation of the two sensor signals the actuator position as guide target position. Both guiders work in the integral mode.

Detection of missing rubber on top or bottom. An array of CCD cameras OL 91 is mounted on the front and back side of the calendered steel cord. High intensity LED lights provide the illumination. The cameras evaluate the surfaces continuously and save defect data in a database for quality control.

The ELQVS software is used to record material widths, measured with various E+L sensing systems, in relation to material length. The system can document up to six independent measuring points. The widths are recorded cyclically every 20 ms in a database and displayed on a customized HMI.
